How to make a voluntary disclosure to HMRC on dog breeding
HMRC are offering dog breeders who have failed to notify their full liability to Tax on the sale of puppies and olive branch by way of a voluntary disclosure of their liabilities. But this is not as easy as it sounds.
Firstly, it is not entirely voluntary as it is classed as prompted by the letter that lands on the mat so you will not get the full reduction in the penalty charge
Are you able to calculate your actual profits after all the expenses you’ve incurred
Are you able to prove all your expenses?
Can you work out what Tax and Class 4 National Insurance you owe and top of any the income you may have?
Have you been claiming any taxable state benefits as these need to be taken into account?
How do you work out how much interest you owe to HMRC going back to the date? You should have paid the tax?
And how much penalty charge do you have to pay the Revenue as a fine for not declaring this income to them on time?
Finally, do you have the hardware and software to do the disclosure as it must be filed through HMRC’s own digital disclosure service.
