Dog Breeders back in the spotlight at HMRC but are HMRC barking up the wrong tree!
Over the last couple of months, I have noticed the prevalence of new enquiries into dog breeders. Prior to Covid HMRC had accessed the details of dog breeders direct from Petplan insurers and launched enquiries into many thousands of breeders who had failed to register for tax or understated the income. These enquiries then died down over the last year or so.
It was a traumatic time for dog breeders as it was difficult to refute the figures as HMRC were in possession of details of all the litters, the dates, and the sale prices.
As everyone knows during Covid many people decided that a puppy would be a great way to fill the time, get some exercise and occupy the children. Sales of puppies went through the roof throughout 2020 and into 2021.
It may come of no surprise there then to see that HMRC are back again checking whether all of these have been declared by the dog breeders during that period. Many of them are getting a second hit from HMRC. If you need help or know anyone who has received a letter from HMRC contact Lindsay as a matter of urgency who has vast experience in this type of trade. You may not get such an easy ride from HMRC if you have been found to default a second time put Lindsay can take the strain for you and achieve a settlement mutually acceptable to each side.
