Code of Practice 9 – COP9 Letters?
If you have received Code of Practice 9 -Contractual Disclosure Facility (COP) letter from HMRC you are being given notice that the taxman suspects you of committing tax fraud or tax evasion. His suspicions will have resulted from in-depth reviews of your case before the letter is issued.
Take profession advice even if a quick phone, call before completing the forms attached to it, as this is HMRC’s most serious civil investigation and getting specialist advice right from the outset is imperative and money well spent, to protect yourself from more serious sanctions.
There is a risk of criminal investigation, but this can be averted by making a full and complete disclosure of all tax irregularities entered deliberately on your part,
In return HMRC agree not to pursue criminal proceedings – it’s an offer worth its weight in gold.
