HMRC – Investigate Uber Drivers!
HMRC have begun the process of investigating hundreds of Uber drivers suspected of not declaring all their income. HMRC is chasing the private hire taxi drivers for unpaid tax they as HMRC suspect and hold details to prove they have been working ‘under the radar’ for years.
This does not include black cab drivers with different licences and working arrangements.
HMRC say that people who operate in the Black Economy or the Hidden Economy as they call it, may do so because they’re unaware or unsure of their tax obligations. However, ignorance is no excuse in law for not complying fully with your tax obligations.
If drivers think their Tax Returns were incorrect, or they need to declare income late for the first time, they can make a voluntary disclosure.
